Bead Table Wednesday

October 17, 2012

Yesterday someone ended up on my blog googling for how to make a Chan Luu bracelet. I have no idea why, since I never mentioned one… but it made me curious. How do you make one? So it was my turn to google for tutorials, and I found a couple, like this:

Or, if you prefer pictures and text, this: Link

I usually have a bit of a phobia of doing anything that requires thread and a needle, as I am rubbish with those. But this looks easy enough, so I’ve decided to try one (though looks are probably deceiving…)

So today, I have some thread and leather and some gorgeous sparkly beads on my table – no idea if anything will come of it, but I’ll try my best. The design still lacks a button for the closure, though – maybe I’ll make one from polymer clay. And I can already tell that this bracelet will be a pain to photograph – as the beads are.

Memory Wire Bracelet

October 11, 2012

Here’s my first ever memory wire bracelet – isn’t it pretty? I like the look of it so much that I’d like to keep this one, but then I didn’t make it for keeping. I had planned for it to be one row longer originally, but I ran out of beads – those little jars they come in are cleverly cushioned so as to fill only half way – there’s less in them than you’d think 😦

I can’t afford to make the bracelets longer, or I’d have to use two jars of beads, and thus the price I’d have to ask for them would go up… But it’s long enough like this, so I can make more… I think I’ll stick with the star charms and not use hearts – after all, they are for christmas.

Spring Flower Bracelet

March 8, 2012

A new bracelet. I really like the look of the soft green jade parts with the copper.

Bracelet Design and Photography

March 3, 2012

A simple bracelet without Art Beads. I had these beads lying around, wanting to turn them into a necklace. But they missed a key element, the design was too simple for a necklace. Today I gave up and turned it into a bracelet instead, for that the design works well enough.

Unfortunately my camera just doesn’t capture the colours (no flash this time), that blue is much darker in reality. Also, crappy photo. I need to work on that…

EDIT!

I recruited my boyfriend to take a new photo. Better?

Fall Colours in Spring?

January 24, 2011

I just realized that I didn’t even show one of my favourite bracelets yet – it’s a little out of date, seeing that it was inspired by the pantone colours for Fall 2010 – and now Spring 2011 is up already!

But, colour inspiration is never out of date, right? So go check out these inspiring posts by Heather Powers:

This is the palette I came up with, using her worksheet:

And this is the result:

Now, to get you (and me) started for spring, here are some recent colour inspiration posts that are more up to date:

Stone and Wood

January 23, 2011

There were a lot of things I wanted to do today, but I’m not feeling well and so I didn’t get any of them done :/

Consequently, I have nothing new to show you, so this is something a little older – I made the bracelet as a christmas present, so I couldn’t show it before. Unfortunately, this is the only picture I took of this piece.

Dancing the Bolero – Monthy Challenge June 2010

June 14, 2010

I haven’t done a proper challenge entry for Art Bead Scene in… hm, let me think, did I do any proper entry this year?
After several failures, I have decided never again to try creating components specifically for a challenge. Instead, I’m going to use what I have available and just play with my beads – that way I’m usually more successful, and it’s also way more fun!

This one really was a challenge, as I don’t normally use these colours. And as usual, my first tholught was: “I don’t have anything in pink and green!” Considering the size of my bead stash, that wasn’t likely. If nothing else, I should at least have seed beads and swaroskis – I probably have those in every colour of the rainbow. Match them with a more neutral art bead, et voilà!

This was also the first time I tried out that new brass coloured chain I got, and I really really like it!!

And don’t forget to check out the last giveaway on Earthenwood Studio: some HOT beads!

Yet another leafy bracelet

June 3, 2010

Sorry for the absence, I was out of town for job interviews (a lot of travelling, very little sleep). One didn’t go awfully well, the other went better, but I still don’t have any big expectations.

Back on topic: The above bracelet isn’t really new, you might remember seeing a sneak peek of it a while ago. It was originally meant for the Art Bead Scene Colour challenge, but I did not have any matching crimp beads, so I ended up not entering it. I completed it now as another one of the bracelets I wanted to do last month, but even with this kind of cheating I didn’t manage to create seven of them ;)I just remembered it after looking at all the colour schemes for Erin’s wedding flower challenge, and I thought you might like to see the whole thing.

This was the colour scheme:

A Summer Bracelet

May 24, 2010

The second bracelet for this month is summer-inspired, at last. Bright, luscious flower-hues, dyed jade, green turquoise and wood, and a cute little flower charm. And I even had some sunlight to take photos outdoors!

My boyfriend wanted to give me a light box for my next birthday, but the one he ordered didn’t really work – and it was way too huge for my room, so we’re sending it back. Maybe he will be able to build me one until July.

Now maybe I’ll try my hand on Erin’s Wedding Flower Challenge after all – I have to create some more bracelets next week, probably not much with art beads, but we’ll see.

Autumn Inspiration II – Bracelet

May 17, 2010

It seems I can’t stop creating autumn-inspired pieces… even though yesterday at the medieval market, it was really nice and sunny. I found no lampwork beads that I liked, but I did buy a few felted beads (I’ll show them later, I haven’t had the chance to take a photo yet). Having been away from the internet since Friday morning, I had a heap of blog posts to read this evening, so I did not have time to create anything today (the above first bracelet for this month is already a few days old). Now I might, but I’d prefer catching up on a bit of sleep…
